A London bus stop has been fitted with a screen that aims to show a 40-second ad only to women. The ad campaign is run by children’s charity Plan UK, a charity that helps support women and girls in developing countries who often do not get a choice in how to live their life.

A camera fitted to the bus stop will measure facial features such as distance between the eyes, nose shape, length of the jaw, shape of the cheek bones and size of the person standing to calculate if the person is male or female. Females are shown the 40 second advert, showing 3 13-year-old girls talking about their lives. Males are simply shown a website link. The technology has a success rate of 90%.

The bus stop in question is opposite Selfridges in London’s Oxford Street. The charity is reported to have paid £30,000 for the campaign, which starts on 7th March. In a statement given to the BBC, Plan UK said that males will not see the advert to highlight gender discrimination in other countries.

The technology, developed and provided by advertising company Clear Channel UK, is said to be one of the first times a gender-specific advert has been used in such a high tech way. This could open the doors to more adverts targeting men and women separately, particulary in the fashion and health and beauty markets, where goods are specifically targeted at different genders.

Digital advertising is becoming a more cost-effective method of advertising, and more digital advertising screens are appearing around London, from small screens on bins, to huge displays on the road-side. This type of gender-specific advertising is sure to be a big hit if the technology can be proved to work.

Remember that snobby teenager who’d sport golf clothes and bow ties and had a damaging obsession for Tom Jones?

Alfonso Lincoln Ribeiro, now 40, put a dent into 80’s TV as Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but where exactly did the American actor go after gracing us with his geeky shuffles? Let’s take a look at Ribeiro’s career:

1979 – Aged eight, the New York City-native appeared in US drama Hit Me Again Dad.

1981 – Envious school-kids saw their classmate releasing singles Dance With Me, Not Too Young and Sneak Away With Me.

1983 – Ribeiro gained his first brush of recognition playing the title role of Broadway musical The Tap Dance Kid.

1984 – Rumours circulated that Ribeiro broke his neck during the making of one of Michael Jackson’s Pepsi television commercial as a dancer.

1990-1996 – Most notable as the spoiled rich-kid Carlton Banks, Ribeiro played the cousin to Will Smith in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Ribeiro with Fresh Prince co-stars Tatyana Ali and Will Smith

1993 – The comedian starred in a small horror movie entitled Ticks in which he turns into a giant tick.

1996-1999 – Ribeiro was known for his role on LL Cool J’s show In The House as Dr Maxwell Stanton.

1999 – Alfonso appeared in Will Smith’s music video for Wild Wild West.

2002 – Ribeiro married actress Robin Stapler after meeting in 1999.

2003 – Appearing in another music video, Ribeiro had a cameo for Fergie’s Glamorous.

2006 – Ribeiro became a contestant on Fox’s Celebrity Duets turning into one of three finalists.

2006 – Wife Robin Stapler filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, now sharing joint custody of daughter, Sienna Ribeiro.

2008 – Ribeiro was offered the role of hosting game show Catch 21 on US network GSN which remains as his current position.

Let’s go back and watch Alfonso’s best bit below:

In a mix of tradition and technique, Corrie Nielson’s latest collection saw her combine Scottish heritage with sculptural shapes to create a look that reminded us just why we love Scotland!

From the moment the show opened it screamed Scotland with bagpipe music and looks in a variety of tartans with sheer black tulle ruffles and overlays. The reference to Scottish heritage was quite literally in your-face: the models had black checked nets painted on their heads in a way that looked almost like they were in mourning for Scotland – not totally out of the question considering the recent debates surrounding Scotland’s future and its bid for independence. However this show was neither sombre nor purely nostalgic. The sharp architectural lines and sculptural shapes showed off Nielson’s talent whilst proving that Scottish can also mean modernity too.

Show stopping feather hair pieces adorned several of the models heads whilst the soundtrack came to resemble the sounds of fire crackling. The Corrie Nielson girl appeared almost as a Phoenix emerging from the flames, reborn and although still fierce, this time more feminine and more importantly more commercial than ever before.

The collection consisted mainly of wearable shirt and trouser combos and voluminous frock coats – yet there were still some historical proportions present – a floor length skirt with angular projected hips was one of the most memorable. On the whole though this was a collection that when broken down could easily fit into most women’s wardrobes.

Whilst this collection was no way near as political as something like Alexander McQueen’s controversial Highland Rape collection of 1995 it still gave off a strong message; neither the strength nor independence of Scotland or Corrie Nielson should ever be questioned.

For those that haven’t had a chance to read the latest issue of FAME, here is what happened when the leading talent and lifestyle magazine met Matt Cardle…

Since winning the X Factor in 2010, Matt Cardle has been given a hard time from the press. It seemed that Matt had been lying low ever since. Turns out he had been hard at work making the stunning new album ‘Letters’ which has now gone platinum.

For those that haven’t yet bought your album, what can people expect from it?

Just a great collection of songs that I’ve co-written with some amazing artists and producers. Ten years worth of life experiences of things that have affected me enough to write about.

What is your favourite track off the album and why?

All for nothing as it relates to everyone, boyfriend and girlfriend, mum and dad, brother and sister.

You created somewhat of a controversy last year, when you stated that you hadn’t wanted to go down the X Factor route so if you could reverse time, would you do it all again or would you have continued to try and make it on your own or with your former band Seven Summers?

I would go down that route again. I mean people wanted me to start slating the show to be fair because of a couple of comments that I made and people are still trying to push me into slating it now but it’s just not true! I have a lot of respect for the show and what it’s done for me.

Do you still talk to those members of Seven Summers?

Yeah now and again, they’re still really busy and I’m still really busy!

Are you looking forward to your upcoming tour? Is there a venue that you are particularly looking forward to playing at?

I cannot wait. It’s going to be absolutely amazing. I’ll try and make it through it in good health and I hope that everybody has a great time. I can’t wait to play at the Apollo Hammersmith. I’m there on the 29th of March.

What is it like to work with the likes of Gary Barlow and Simon Cowell?

It can be intimidating but lovely and warming all at the same time. Unfortunately, I didn’t actually get to work with Gary, he sent me his version of the song and then I recorded my version of it and sent it back and he accepted it. Simon has been nothing but lovely to me.

Do you think that the X-Factor has run it’s time now?

People are making noises to suggest that but I don’t think so. I think it’s a great show and it’s going to be around for a long long time, I hope so anyway.

If you were asked, would you be a judge?

Absolutely not! I’m too nice!

Did you actually apologize to Scottish fans and to Biffy Clyro over ‘When we Collide’ when you had nothing to be apologising for?

I did. When we did the Scottish leg of the tour, I apologised before I sang the song for the key change and the name change. I was more apologising on behalf of the show.

If you could talk to yourself ten years ago, what advice would you give?

Go to the gym more and don’t smoke!

Where would your dream gig be and who would you most like to collaborate with?

Maybe in Central Park, New York. I’d like to collaborate with Chris Martin if the opportunity ever came around.

We’ve heard that you are a bit of a heavy metal fan and you were pleased when Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing In The Name” beat another X Factor winner, Joe McElderry to number 1. I bet you’re secretly a bit glad that they didn’t try that the year after! So, is there any chance of a Matt Cardle, heavy metal sound in the future?

Well, I wasn’t glad they did it, I was glad to hear Rage on the radio. I’ve been in metal bands but I don’t think that’s the way my voice goes!

If you were a super hero what powers would you have?

Flying because I don’t like getting on planes!

If I gave you an elephant, where would you hide it?

In my flat. I could probably fit an elephant into my front room or maybe not.

Matt’s favourite song off of the album:

February the 22nd 2012 is the day the PS Vita hits the UK shelves. Sony is hoping that it can out-sell its closest rival – The Nintendo 3DS – and become king of the mobile gaming world, but will the gamble pay off?

Well, on paper, the PS Vita seems impressive. It features a quad-core processor from ARM (who specialise in smart phone and mobile processors), 512MB RAM and 128MB video memory, plus a range of storage card options. Sony say that the hand-held console is built for gaming, and while it does have features such as social networking, web browsing and GPS, these are additions, rather than selling points. Sony are targeting the more serious gamer, rather than Nintendo, which targets casual and younger gamers.

The thing that concerns me is the amount of RAM, as this is fairly low by today’s standards. Some smartphones are coming with 786MB and some newer models are being released with 1GB or more. RAM is reasonably cheap so it would have been nice to see a bit more included. The 5″ screen may be a little small for gaming, but it uses Sony’s OLED technology, and is capable of playing back HD games and movies. Sony has always done well with its screen technology, so you should find the screen bright, detailed and crisp.

Sony are taking a huge gamble, as the research and production costs haven’t come cheap. The console is priced very close to the Xbox 360 and PS3, and well above the Wii. In addition to this, games are likely to retail at a similar price to the full-sized counterparts. This makes the PS Vita an expensive choice. Sony have also opted not to use standard SD cards or Sony Memory Sticks, and instead have a PS Vita-only memory card, costing £30 for the 8GB model. If you opt for the 3G model, then expect to pay some kind of contract (or ‘service fee’ as Sony are calling it). It is also on an exclusive deal with Vodafone.

Thankfully, Sony has a good range of games to choose from when the PS Vita is released, including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Rayman Originals, Football, F1 2011, The Michael Jackson Experience HD and for you comic book fans, Ultimate Marvall vs. Capecom 3. The games are reported to be similar to the PS3 editions, so there should be no loss in gameplay.

Sony has gambled a lot by focusing on gaming. It means that other features are not as well-developed and may not be appealing to those who want to do more than gaming. The 2 cameras are both 0.3MP, which is useless for taking photos, and while there is a Skype app, expect the video to be grainy and blurred. The web browser has no Adobe Flash or HTML5 support, which limits the device a lot in terms of web browsing. Battery life has also suffered, with Sony claiming a 3-5 hour gameplay (with no Wi-Fi, 3G and no sound), and the lack of a removable battery means you can’t carry a spare. Sony are reported to be developing an external battery, but no news on when that will be released.

In some ways, it is a step back from the PSP, which aimed to be an all-round media device. By focusing on gaming, Sony hopes the more serious gamers will purchase the device (this group also have more money to spend on gaming). It seems like they are hoping to sell a few expensive devices, rather than a lot of cheaper ones. Despite this, it has the potential to be the best portable gaming device out there, just don’t rely on it to do anything else.

You can pre-order both the Wi-Fi and 3G models from various retailers, but Game has the widest range of bundles and deals.

Jack and Jill is the new film by Adam Sandler in which he plays himself and his sister. (Think Eddie Murphy playing the whole family in his Nutty Professor films). The trailer didn’t really do the film justice, nonetheless the film was pretty good. (Even if South Park did come up with the plot years ago…)

Jack and Jill starts off with Jack as an advert director. He’s good at what he does but he needs Al Pacino for his new advert for donuts. Coupled with the pressure of work, his obnoxious twin sister is coming to stay for a while and he has to entertain her. How is Jack going to get work done and survive the holidays with is annoying sister?

Adam Sandler plays both Jack and Jill. Jack is a normal everyday character while Jill is overly annoying. Adam Sandler roles are very one dimensional; Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy and Little Nicky are roles in which his character has anger issues ( Jack ) but can remain warm and cuddly ( Jill ). The main focus is on his counterpart Jill who is hilarious and annoying at the same time. I think this works pretty well and it’s different from a lot of the things Sandler has done in the past. The interaction between them was pretty funny. Another cast member is Al Pacino as himself. It can be said that Pacino is a great actor and after a while great actors always have that film which shows their greatness is on the decline. This is Pacino’s decline. But not a decline that makes him look too bad; he’s funny and hilarious and maybe not what we saw from Scarface or Godfather, but it’s something different that works.

Jack and Jill did not have a very good trailer but it is a lot better than predicted. The character of Jill can be somewhat creepy but it’s funny and the characters were consistent. The storyline was cliché but do bear in mind that this film was a PG so the storyline cannot be too complex. One thing that was styled differently was the jokes. They seemed to be random and thrown out of the blue and with no real timing which caught much of the audience off guard.

Overall, a decent film. Not as bad as some have said but on the other hand it’s not the best comedy out but will have to do until a next one is on the big screen. Recommended to all, but there is doubt this film will get a good look through as there’s much better out at the cinema at the moment.

This coming Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a time to take up a good habit or give something up that perhaps isn’t so good for us. What then could be better for a last supper than stacks of pancakes! Shrove Tuesday – otherwise known as Pancake Day provides a fun way of feasting pre-Lent, and Fame is here to suggest a few ways you might eat yours!

The classic: Whether you buy them ready made, or fry them yourself, pancakes always taste fantastic with sugar and lemon, maple syrup, or chocolate sauce and ice cream! To make your pancakes even more tempting why not add some glacier cherries and marshmallows to chocolate style pancakes, or for a healthy (yeah right who are you kidding!) option try adding fresh berries and spray cream!

What you will need:

4oz plain flour

1 egg

1/2 pint water and milk mixed

oil

A choice of your favourite toppings

What to do:

Whisk together the flour, egg and milk/water mixture and leave to stand for 30 mins

Heat the oil in a pan

Pour mixture into the pan and fry until both sides are golden brown – don’t forget to throw in a classic pancake flip!

Add your favourite topping and tuck in!

Caramelised apple and sultana pancake pud: For something a bit different from the usual pancake delights, try this perfect pancake pudding.

What you will need:

6 ready made pancakes

2 tablespoons of brandy

110g apple slices

2 or 3 handfuls of sultanas

50g unsalted butter

2 tablespoons of icing sugar

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

What to do:

Warm the alcohol and apple slices together in a saucepan

Cut the pancakes into small squares

Melt the butter in a frying pan until glossy and runny, add the pancakes and the apple mixture. Then drop in the sultanas

Stir the mixture until the pancake squares are golden brown

Mix the cinnamon and icing sugar together

Shake the sugar/cinnamon mixture over the pancake mix

Place the pan under the grill on a high setting

Wait for the sugar to caramelise, then remove from grill

Serve and enjoy! (With cream if you’re naughty!)

Choconut pancake bake: For a really chocolatey pancake option try this pancake bake.

What you will need:

8 pancakes

1x400g jar chocolate spread of your choice

75g butter

35g chopped nuts – any can be used but hazelnuts are great

80ml Bailey’s hazelnut liqueur

What to do:

Heat the oven to 200 degrees

Cover half of each pancake with the chocolate spread, then fold over to make a pocket. Cover half of the top of each pocket and fold once again

Repeat with all 8 pancakes and place in a roasting tin or oven proof dish

Put the butter + liqueur in a pan and heat until the butter is melted

Pour over the pancakes and scatter the nuts on top

Bake in the oven for 10 minutes

Serve and indulge!

In recent weeks Facebook revealed its plans for a $5 billion stock flotation. While this is lower than expected, it is big news for Facebook, and its competitors.

The move has been rumoured for a long time, and many criticised Facebook for making money from information that, put simply, isn’t theirs. Facebook has been doing this for many years through its advertisement network, which offers highly target ads based on users information.

The valuation placed on Facebook is an estimated $100 billion. To give you an idea, Google is valued at $187 billion, and Yahoo is valued at just $19 billion. It is worth more than Ford and Citigroup, or to put it another way, about the same value as Amazon and McDonald’s. This is huge for a private company, and some wonder if the valuation is justified. Having said that, the price of information is valuable, particularly if that information is about potential customers. Facebook can go beyond the basic information that companies usually collect, by adding things such as likes and dislikes, travel patterns, location and friends.

For the first time, Facebook has had to publish details about how it operates, and some surprising things have been revealed. First off, the most important figure in all this is the profit Facebook makes. This is said to be around the $1 billion mark, and most of this comes from online advertising. Other interesting facts include founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg owns just 28.4%, and has over 50% voting rights.

So, if you want to buy shares in Facebook, what do you need to know? Well, Mark Zuckerberg released a statement detailing some of the challenges Facebook faced and the direction in which the company is heading. In short, it’s going to be long, expensive and challenging. He also mentions that the reason for the floatation is to give something back to staff and early investors, who may have been looking at the $100 billion valuation and thinking ‘we should cash in on this’.

Another point Zuckerberg makes is that he won’t change the way the company works, and will still have majority control over the company. This means that investors may have little say in what happens. This may seem like a bad thing, but considering how quickly Facebook has grown, and its 800 million global users acquired in just 8 years, it might be for the best.

There is no date set yet for when the shares will go public, with the formalities still on going, but many expect the highly anticipated shares to be in high demand, making the $100 billion valuation justifiable.

I hate men! All men are liars and cheats. I treat them right; cook, clean, do the washing and show them love and affection. But what do I get in return? Heartache, pain and regret. Maybe I should just find a girl to love me? Someone who would understand me and my needs and probably will make me feel better sexually as she would know where everything is.

I have just come out of a relationship with this guy who said he couldn’t see a future with me because I was too nice. Before him, the last guy said I was too outgoing. Men always say women are indecisive and that we don’t know what we want, but it’s the men who don’t know what they want. When they meet you they say they like everything about you: the way you smile, act and think. Two months down the line they start singing a different song and even go as far as complaining about the way you paint your nails and how you say “Hello” to their friends.

Is it that I’m dating the wrong kind of guy? What is the definition of the right guy? Maybe I should have been a nun, but that’s too late now, right? I’ve had sex with a few guys; can I still be a nun?

As I was still hating men and cursing under my breath, my bus arrived, and as I was about to take the second step, I felt myself falling backwards. Oh no! I’m going to hit the concrete floor hard, but that didn’t happen. He caught me! The guy behind me saved me. As I looked back to say thank you, I went red. This guy was so good looking. So good looking even David Beckham would have no choice but to hate on him.

I said thank you and sat on the next available seat. Guess who came over to sit with me? It was the best man God had ever created. He said, “I remember when I fell down while I was running to catch my bus. It was so embarrassing. The funny thing was, the bus driver did not wait for me. So, I had to stand at the bus stop all dirty and humiliated. I’m sure there a video on YouTube because I saw this young kid filming.” I laughed so hard and I felt so good. We ended up talking for a while and just to say thank you, I invited him for dinner.

“Free-running is not a sport, it’s an art of movement,” says Sam Gifford aka “Flowz”. Sam talks to FAME on behalf of the 13 members of Unique Parkour, who are based in Stevenage. Free-running originated in France where “a group of guys were playing tag without touching the floor, they used their imagination to pretend that the floor represented a sea full of sharks.” Then came the birth of the art of Free-running.

Let’s keep moving on…

Explain to FAME exactly what free-running is.

“Free-running is adapting your body to work within your surroundings, getting from one place to another as smooth and as quickly as possible. People see a rail or a wall and think: why have they put a rail there? What a waste, whereas we see so many opportunities: to jump over, land on, leap from and flip off these objects.”

What’s so appealing about free-running as a hobby?

“Unlike skateboarding or BMXing you don’t need any expensive equipment, all you need is some joggers and trainers and you can jump off a curb or leap over a rail all for free. It’s easy. It’s not just a bit of fun some people do it for stress relief, or to free their mind.”

Are there any local competitions?

“Yes, there’s now one situated in London called the ‘Red Bull art of motion’ where traceurs (free-runners) complete a two minute timed and judged run of the course. There are no boundaries so you can go whatever route you want.”

How did you get the name Unique Parkour?

“There are two types of ‘Parkour’. They originate from France by a guy named David Belle, you may have seen him in ‘District 13’. He came up with the concept and Sebastian Fou, who you can see in ‘Casino Royale’, expanded it and gave free-running a variety.”

How did it all start?

“Our group formed about 6-7 months ago, since then we’ve been breaking so many boundaries. One word to describe my team would have to be inspirational because every time I’m out with them we have a laugh and bounce off each other (It turns out he means this literally) we always strive to be the best in ourselves which makes us what we are today.”

What or who inspires you?

“Every free-runner inspires us, because everyone has a different mind but we all have one thing in common: we are doing something we love. We are ordinary people doing something we love and we strive off each other.”

Our inspirational line is ‘In Brothers We Trust’

STOP! Hang on a second, what about girls who are interested? Are we welcomed too?

“We haven’t actually had any girls interested in joining our team yet, but there are plenty of girls who are better than us and we’d love them to take an interest in our team, all girls are welcome.”

That’s better!
